Expert Advice - Choose the Perfect Tile

Join our very own Jim Aaron, VP of Merchandising for Carpet One Floor & Home, for some information on the three basic types of tile flooring: ceramic, porcelain, and stone.

Types of Tile

As we mentioned before, you will find ceramic, porcelain and stone tiles in our showroom. Ceramic and porcelain are two top choices for residential tile. Both types of tiles are made with the same materials, but porcelain is classified differently because it is denser and more resistant to heat and moisture. Ceramic tiles are light-weight and budget friendly, and are available in an array of vibrant and neutral colours. Porcelain tiles are more durable, so they can tend to be heavier. Since porcelain can resist moisture, they are a good option for three season rooms and even as an outdoor patio.

Stone tile is a unique option we have for our customers. Stone slabs are quarried from different locations, meaning no two tiles look the same. When properly sealed stone tiles are waterproof and stain resistant.

Where can Tile be Installed?

Tile is versatile when it comes to where you can install it around your home. Usually, tile is installed in kitchens and bathrooms because of how easy it is to clean and because it is resistant to moisture. You can also install tile in areas of your home like laundry rooms, entryways, as well as your basement. More durable tiles like stone and porcelain can be installed outside around your home as a patio or walkway.
